Assessment is a journey that each teacher needs to take. Below are my thoughts on assessment, and assessment practices that I have done in my class.
Why assess?
To gain a picture, a perspective, on what the student knows- at that time. (They will learn more throughout the year!)
Having a "one-size-fits-all" assessment means that some of our diverse learners are unable to accurately show their learning... can you differentiate assessments?
How are teachers using the data collected from assessments in their classrooms, and how is this influencing their practices?
Some practical ideas:
Have conferences when students are submitting their work to go over the criteria and assign their mark.
Create multiple opportunities for learners to show what they know.
Use the data you collect as a teacher to influence your practice and teachings.
Ensure that you have a welcoming environment where students are able to take risks and try.
