* I am not an expert at coding. But I am always a student ready and willing to learn!
When I was in Elementary School, going to the Computer Lab to practice typing on "All the Right Type" was the best part of the week... and trying to discretely "paint" on the Art Program when the teacher wasn't looking. Kid Pix was awesome.
Math and Coding
Teaching coding is a great way for students to explore and develop skills for the future. Coding is a language that students can learn to write, and to fit the puzzle pieces together to create something. By playing around with coding concepts, students are learning to problem solve and communicate with others. They are thinking creatively and creating social learning opportunities. “Daisy the Dinosaur” (iPad app) (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/daisy-the-dinosaur/id490514278) This free app is a great resource when teaching students in the primary years to code. It is a simple platform that students will. Be able to navigate on their own after practicing as a class. There is a “free mode” where students can use commands and program to move Daisy (a dinosaur), along with challenges that scaffold tasks for students to achieve.
