Math anxiety is much more than feeling nervous when doing math. Being nervous is a sensible reaction to a situation that is seen as being scary, and being anxious may not make sense to the person feeling it. They may feel anxious, even when they know that there is no real reason to feel anxious. (Sokolowski, H. M., & Ansari, D., 2017)
Feelings may include: - Emotional symptoms - feeling helplessness - lack of confidence - fear of getting things wrong - Physical symptoms - heart rate may increase - irregular breathing - sweatiness - shakiness - biting nails - "a pit in their stomach" - nausea These feelings are completely normal, but with a supportive environment students are able to thrive and take chances.
