Looking towards the future of my time as an educator, there are quite a few different goals that I wish to achieve being so young and new to the profession.
1) Completing my Early Childhood Educator Post-Grad Certificate from Queen’s University. Using the knowledge that I have gained in the courses to benefit my future Kindergarten Students. 2) Learning basic ASL (American Sign Language) to communicate with students and parents who may be hard of hearing and utilize this language. The University of British Columbia has a Summer 2021 online course which I hope to take. 3) Continuing my exploration of Neufeld Institute courses by furthering my “Play Education” with the courses: Play and Attachment and Play and Emotion. I have found that by taking Neufeld Institute courses, I have developed a perspective that places an importance in developing connections and relationships with students first. 4) Seeking out advice from experienced Kindergarten teachers, both in person and from online platforms. Personally, I started my career in the Lower Mainland before moving to the Okanagan to teach as well as be closer to my extended family. At the root of my being, I am lifelong learner—and I will continue to seek out knowledge and learn from others. I’m excited to see what my future holds! :) Ms. D
